I thought I would post that as of today, I am beginning to list my inventory for the Vintage Objects of Art section and Vintage Home Decor on my Etsy site.

On A Dry Day...

We've had a lot of days with continual rain and unfortunately, flooding. Today it is not raining and it is dry. Meaning, "It's not raining right now" But it gets me excited for gardening and preparing for spring. Here are some photos of my primroses:

I decided to buy my new gardening gloves and new pruners. I'm Ready! Even have my ticket for the "Insight Into Gardening" Classes that will be presented by the Benton County Master Gardener's in February. Can't wait. Love, Love being in the Garden.

I have always loved the design of Oscar de la Renta. Here are some beautiful pieces from the Spring 2011 Collection. His designs are so very pretty and feminine. While this may sound odd, I love how his pieces aren't ridiculous. His designs are pure to me... Seems like that a lot of designers and the fashion industry just try to be "edgy" Thus, the look of trying too hard. Definitely some of his pieces are not main stream, but you can see real inspiration and flow. Of course fashion is Art and in the eyes of the beholder.

This brooch is one in my collection from my Grandmother. It is an Eisenberg costume piece probably from the late 60's early 70's. I love all the different colored stones and how they are set at different levels. Another example of wonderful craftsmanship and design in decorative jewelry.

I love many types of jewelry as long at is vintage and is superbly executed... just a thing I have. In turn I love sharing finds, knowledge that I think will help and delight collectors and all the while, learning myself.

These thoughts bring me to an Auction of jewels formerly from the collection of the Duchess of Windsor. The auction will take place at Sotheby's in London on November 10th. Every piece tells a story from her life and love, the Duke of Windsor.

I also wanted to share this photo of a recent piece I acquired. This panther brooch is decorative jewelry, but executed so well he has charmed everyone that I have shown him to. From the setting of the rhinestones to his wonderful articulated body, he is so lovely,sparkling and a little glamorous. I believe he may well have been an inspiration of the Cartier panther bracelet that was in the Duchess of Windsors collection.

I Know, Keep saying my posting is light... Indeed it is. However, here are some photos of an Art Deco compact that will soon be a listing in my Etsy store. I will also offer a lovely victorian locket Engraved with sweet little birds, faceted victorian jet earrings and a beautiful flower brooch. Must get to work listing!

My beloved begonias survived just fine. I love begonias and I find that they are so easy to grow... For me anyway.

Today, I wanted to post one of my first pieces I bought when I started collecting. I bought this Miriam Haskell brooch about 15 years ago. I love it just as much now as when I first saw it.

The craftsmanship of these pieces are utterly amazing. This brooch dates probably from the late '40's early 50's...

New Listing on Etsy

I listed this beautiful Circa 1920 engagement ring this morning. I adore the platinum setting and I love the color of the diamond.

Choosing a diamond based on the 4 "C's" is very important to know so that one understands the grading of diamonds or other precious stones.

However, I believe the standard of beauty that is marketed tells us to CHOOSE a particular diamond based on a standard, that being a colorless and somewhat flawless diamond. Yes, these diamonds have their own beauty, but so does a diamond that was chosen for its color and was cut to enhance the characteristics of that stone. Which is what one will discover when looking at antique rings.

With the older diamond cuts like this ring, which is an Old European cut diamond... There is mastery to be able to cut a diamond to bring out its best qualities, taking in to account the color and clarity. Many gemologists consider the cut of a diamond to be its most important characteristic. The cut determines how light is reflected within the diamond and how brilliant it will be. In other words a diamond with a poor cut will appear dull, even if it has the perfect color and clarity.

Diamonds are of the earth. Each unique and beautiful. Find the one that you love.

I am gradually adding the vintage clothing collection that camellia has in the store onto Etsy.

Today I added this beautiful coat with Japanese embroidery. It really is what I love in vintage clothing: Asian Design, fine embroidery, and of a Organic design. I am excited to be able to offer this coat.

I have had in depth discussions about it with my very experienced friend in vintage clothing: Laura at Isadora's. We believe it to be around the time period of circa 1910-1920. "Circa" giving it a time period of within 10 years or so of the dates.

I Also love to read about fashion design and influences of other countries such as Japan.

The influence of Japan has been an inspiration to fashion for many years.

After opening the port of Yokohama in 1859, Silk became a major export.

At the end of the 19th century, major kimono shops showed interest in Western European Markets and greatly expanded their foreign trade business. Silk coats with Japanese embroidery were one of many products exported to Europe during this period.

This coat was likely made for export in Japan. While it is somewhat Inspired by a Chinese Mandarin Robe, the Robe was made and embroidered in Japan.

I adore colored gemstones...I love diamonds too. On a rainy stormy day like today, I felt like shooting some pictures of my gemstone rings. Here they are photographed against the lovely back drop of a vintage French provincial plate. I have a set of 5. All of birds. I took some photos of those today as well. They are amazing.

A lot going on!

Well, I’ve been a little late in blogging. I was moving to a different home. After almost 10 years in my previous home it certainly has been an adjustment, but I’m so glad to be here. Moving from a 1911 Arts & Crafts bungalow to a 1972 home with modern lines is exciting. I loved my bungalow, but it was time to move on.

The shag carpet will go for sure, but the house is pretty much a blank slate and I am excited to decorate. Which will have to wait until the new floors and interior painting is done. It will be quite a transformation to be sure.

Back to business, blogging, and jewelry, wedding dresses and other beautiful design forms.

On my Etsy site as well as on my blog, I am going to be presenting a different types of photos of my jewelry. I’d like to present my jewelry in a very straightforward photographic sense. I will still have some “display” / artistic photos, but you will see more utilitarian photos for customers to really study and appreciate ring design.

So here’s two photos of incredible diamond and platinum antique rings from the Edwardian Era. I especially love the Old Mine Cut diamond. Quite a picture of beauty they are.

One of Camellia's rings has been included in the Etsy Wedding Attire Guide which is so nice to see.

Today on my blog I've added some pictures of a wedding veil that I have listed on Etsy. I feel very fortunate to be able to offer such a lovely piece. Wedding veils of this age and condition are very difficult to find. It is amazing that this veil is about 50 years old. This lovely piece came from a collector who has been collecting vintage clothing for 35 years and is incredibly knowledgeable. Sometimes I may sound like a broken record, but to find something like this is so difficult. Which is why I am so excited to be able to offer this to my customers.

As I have mentioned I Will be gradually adding some wonderful vintage clothing to my etsy site. I will also be adding a few more exquisite vintage bridal pieces by the first of the year.

Downtown Corvallis held their annual trick or treat event where participating businesses invite Trick or Treaters to stop by. I must say, It is so much fun to see all the kids dressed up. My Friend Sharon brought her completely adorable daughter Madison by in her precious little bee outfit..... complete with matching purse!

She just wasn't in to holding still for me, but I managed to get some quick pictures.

Today I've packed up a couple wedding dresses, Some jewelry and other vintage goodies and sent them off to a photo shoot in Portland for the Spring Issue of Oregon Bride. Thank you Kristin!

Now, I just need to get working on photographing my vintage clothing. As Jill mentioned on her blog it seems that these weeks are going by so fast.... Can we just slow it down a bit...

Lovely October

How I love October.... All of a sudden it is Fall! I will make a point of adding some fall pictures soon. I did want to add a new picture of another antique ring I have added to my inventory.... Along with several others! And to boot I'm offering wonderful discounts on engagement rings throughout the month of October.

On another note, I will soon be adding some fantastic vintage clothing to my Etsy site. Beautiful Vintage dresses from designers such as Mr. Blackwell, Gucci, Bill Blass and Thierry Mugler. More photos to take and cataloging, but it will be wonderful to get that part of my business up and going and ready to share with everyone!

A brief break from business and general life stuff to go camping was such a treat. The tree was on the Oregon Coast Range. A 500 year old spruce. He was truly a mammoth! I'm always inspired how Nature sets up perfect displays such as the little pine cones I saw nestled in the log and the mushrooms ready at attention.

The Emerald ring I added because the stone is part of the natural elements to me... When I see the green of the emerald it reminds me of the beautiful greens in nature.

Speaking of Emeralds... Off to the "Emerald City" for a buying trip tomorrow. Oh what fun!

This ring was chosen by a gentleman on the east coast. We both agreed that it is such a beautiful ring. A sapphire virtually on its own... Set in platinum with two small rose cut diamonds That is all, but sometimes the most simple design is so lovely.

I wanted let people know Why I love Antique Jewelry. I'd have to say, beauty and craftsmanship is foremost, but there are so many other reasons to adore it.

I just wanted to make sure that people were aware of this wonderful blog promoting the beauty of vintage fashion. It is also a great blog to learn about vintage fashion too. Rhapsody in the Vineyard

Saturday, March 14th was "Rhapsody in the Vineyard" Wine Walk. Businesses are paired with a winery and in general, people stroll around downtown Corvallis and sample wines from the different wineries and check out different businesses.

Camellia was paired with Arcane Cellars of Salem, Oregon.

It was amazing how many people turned out despite the down pour.... Of rain that is.

Over the last month or so, a very nice gentleman I know had been visiting Camellia to look at this sapphire ring for his girl. On Saturday we wrapped it in a beautiful box and bow.... (It is a secret!) I will miss this beautiful ring sparkling in the store, but it is also wonderful to know that it will soon have a new home and hand! Congratulations!

Benefit for Heartland Humane

The Heartland Humane society here in Corvallis had their benefit auction on Friday, Feb 6th. "Wine & Whiskers" which features a plated dinner & live auction to raise money for the animals. Camellia was happy to offer a gift certificate to help with the cause. Unfortunately I was unable to attend, but I wanted to show you another "Gem" which I adopted about 4 years ago from Heartland: "Mr. Erwin" aka, "Kitty Boy" or "Big Daddy".... which is his lastest nickname. I've heard from Heartland that the auction was well attended & successful. I have a link to their website. They have a wonderful mission!

Yesterday, I added a picture of a aquamarine cabachon ring. When I first saw it I knew immediately that I wanted it for the store. It certainly embodies the qualities that are desirable in Antique rings: Exquisite, unique design and unparalleled craftsmanship. The appraisal dates the ring circa 1918 and I can definitely see the Art & Crafts asthetic in this amazing ring!

It has been some time since I got to blogging, but here I am again. We have been busy at Camellia this summer. On September 6th the shop participated in “Rhapsody in the Vineyard” Wine Walk here in downtown Corvallis. There were literally hundreds of people who went through the store which was busy and a lot of fun. Thank you Illahee vineyards for providing some great wine!

During the month of September Camellia is offering customers 10% off sapphire rings. We have beautiful rings with September’s birthstone dating from the 1880’s to the 1960’s. Some set in Platinum, Yellow or white gold. All of which are accented with diamonds.

We also have some fun upcoming events for October and November including special offers on wedding dresses & vintage clothing. Oh, and Our 1st Year Anniversary Party will be sometime in November, details to follow!

Here are some photos of the beautiful vintage inspired bridal gowns carry here at Camellia. They are truly stunning. The fashion design theory of “Less is more” is evident when a girl wears one of these dresses. Paired with antique jewelry and a simple wrap, they are amazing. The dresses are designed by my dear friend and mentor Laura Dalesandro, Owner of Isadora’s in Seattle.

Here the "Stella" gown is shown - When in the store window, it has been known to stop traffic!

My store opened October 31^st, 2007. It has been a busy & fun first 6 months. I’ve been able to meet a lot of interesting people in the community and have enjoyed sharing the store with all
those that have stopped by.

I have sold some truly lovely, collectible pieces of jewelry. It has been my privilege to be able to offer this inventory to my customers.

My inventory is always changing and I make it a priority to offer the finest quality in antique jewelry.
